KWisner Wiki

This is the main KWisner wiki page. Presently, there's one subpage:

RelatedLinks - Related-links page

Note: Don't go public with this page yet.

Question: Why is this wiki here?

Answer: This is a web site creation tool that meets several criteria:

1.Multiple people can use it from different locations

2.It's lightweight and easy to use

3.You don't need to learn HTML (you can just type English text)

4.HTML code is allowed

5.A search engine is provided

In most cases, you wouldn't use a wiki to redo an existing corporate web site. However, it's a convenient way to add subpages of various types.

This wiki has the following drawbacks:

1.It's intended primarily for simple pages - just basic text and a few images.

2.If you stick to simple features like bold and italics, you don't need to learn HTML. However, features such as colored text, image links, right-justified images, etc., require at least a little HTML.

3.There's no Undo function. However, you can press Cancel to abort the current edit session.

4.This wiki isn't suitable for large pages or large sites. Some operations would be too slow, in either case.

5.This wiki lets you use punctuation or simple constructs to add special features such as bold or italics. That's good, but in some cases, it means that ordinary text may do unexpected things. Note: This copy of the wiki has been modified to address the issue. There should be fewer problems with this version.

6.Some of the formatting buttons are confusing. When you press them, things don't go where you expect them to. I suggest that you only use the first three buttons: bold, italic, and code. In most cases, you don't need the formatting buttons at all, because it's easy to add the formatting constructs manually. table is the main exception. Note: For a list of the manual formatting rules that you can use, see the QwikiSyntax page.

Some points of interest:

1.You don't need cookies to browse the wiki. However, you must enable cookies before you can log in.

2.It's easy to add images. To add an image, you press a button to upload it, then you put the image-file name somewhere in the page. No HTML code is required.

For example, to insert the following picture, I just typed dog dot jpg:

3.It's also easy to create new web pages. For example, to create a RelatedLinks page, I added the word RelatedLinks to this page and pressed Save. This automatically generated a new link. I clicked on the link, which took me to the new page. After that, I clicked Edit this page, added some text to the new page, and pressed Save again.

4.This is a modified version of QwikiWiki. Some language features been added and others have been removed. For a list of language features, visit the QwikiSyntax page.

5.The editor doesn't provide a command to move blocks of text. However, if your OS environment supports copy-and-paste, this isn't a significant issue.

6.There's a search box at the bottom of every wiki page. Note: The search box supports wiki pages. It doesn't know about the rest of the web site.
